ABOUT THE SERIES

My Suicide Story is an interview style documentary series that features real survivors of attempted suicide who share their stories of survival and triumph over their attempts. The mission of the series is to demystify/destigmatize suicidal ideations, changing the negative perception that suicide carries and to save lives by deterring those suffering from suicidal ideations from attempting to take their own.


ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Joe Massa

Joe was born in New Haven, Connecticut. His passion for film and storytelling began at a young age and has continued throughout his life. He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, where he studied Pre-law. After graduating and taking the LSAT exam, he came to the realization that he did not want to sacrifice his life’s passion to study law and instead followed his love for film. His work on this series has been recognized nationwide and has been featured in several news and media outlets including USA Today, Palm Beach Post, New Haven Register, Business Insider, Yahoo News, and Medium. Most recently, he was nominated for Connecticut Magazine’s 40 under 40: Class of 2022. In 2024, Joe was appointed to the judging panel for the Greenwich Film Festival. More importantly, his work in creating this series has contributed to the fight against suicide and has reached tens of thousands of people spanning across the globe.
